Andrew Coburn is Professor of Public Health and Director of the Maine Rural Health Research Center in the Muskie School of Public Service, University of Southern Maine. His rural research interests have been on the Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Program and Critical Access Hospitals, rural health clinics, rural hospital patient safety, and the patterns of health insurance coverage for rural populations. Dr. Coburn also serves on the Rural Policy Research Institute’s (RUPRI) Panel on Rural Health. He recently served on the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on the Future of Rural Health Care. He was awarded the Distinguished Researcher Award from the National Rural Health Association in 2000.
