Core Programs - Academics
RUPRI’s mission is to facilitate
policy-relevant research and to facilitate public dialogue on issues of
importance to rural regions. In its nearly two decades of existence
RUPRI has contributed to a rapid growth in both research and dialogue
and to a broadening of the policy issues viewed as relevant to rural
people. This growth has created an increased need for more
sophisticated researchers and communicators prepared to analyze the
broad array of policy areas relevant to rural regions. As a
result, there is a shortage of rural and regional policy researchers,
analysts and educators prepared to meet this challenge. Furthermore,
improved information technology, data collection options, new analytic
techniques and changing socioeconomic circumstances such as
globalization have created a need for new educational and academic
programs.
RUPRI’s academic program was
initiated to support better rural and regional policy by expanding the
number and capacity of social scientists interested in studying rural
issues. We do this by:
- Promoting rural policy research, analysis and education as a career among students;
- Supporting networks of policy analysts worldwide;
Sponsoring and hosting periodic conferences, workshops, and educational events related to rural policy;
- Providing funding support for graduate students interested in a career in rural and regional policy; and
Creating and disseminating high quality educational material.
