Decision Support Tools
The acid test of new policies and programs is their application within rural places. RUPRI provides rural communities and regions with a number of tools and approaches that are designed to build local capacity and improve decision-making. The translation of complex data and information into maps and specialized reports for a variety of audiences is the particular expertise of the Center for Applied Research and Environmental Systems, a RUPRI-affiliated center at the University of Missouri. Indicators and tools for understanding, diagnosing, and seizing competitive advantage are being developed by the RUPRI Center for Regional Competitiveness, the Energizing Entrepreneurs Institutes offered by the RUPRI Center for Rural Entrepreneurship enable practitioners, local officials, and residents the training and tools to take entrepreneurial action in their rural communities; and the work of the Community Policy Analysis Center, a partner organization located in Columbia, MO, that provides economic development decision tools for local communities. RUPRIís Rural Governance program has tested a number of governance concepts with clusters of small communities in three states.
