The International Comparative Rural Policy Studies Consortium, of which RUPRI is a partner, is holding the summer institute June 19 through July 5, hosted by Oregon State University and Portland State University.
The International Comparative Rural Policy Studies (ICRPS) program brings together an international, multi disciplinary group of faculty, students and professionals to study together the many facets of rural policy, from policy formulation to policy impacts.
The ICRPS Consortium, comprising core faculty from eleven universities in Canada, Europe and the USA, has developed an advanced program to enhance policy formulation and analysis in the rural context. The ICRPS program is the first of its kind that enables students to examine and compare the role of rural policy in different cultural, political and administrative contexts in Europe and North America, as well as in the South.
The Summer Institutes provide students an opportunity to study in two countries. The program alternates between schools in North America and in Europe, and includes opportunities to share research results with faculty and other students. Students work in groups, make presentations, analyze documents, prepare policy briefs, meet policy professionals and take part in field trips. This summer's institute is being held in Corvallis, Oregon.
Three key questions frame the summer institute, and the institute focuses on research and policies around sustainability in rural communities.
· What international comparisons can be made?
· What lessons can be drawn from comparative analysis?
· What implications are there for policy?
The summer institute includes both in-class sessions, and field trips around Portland and rural Oregon.
