House of Representatives Passes GIVE Act

On March 18, the House passed the Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education (GIVE) Act by a 321-105 margin.  The GIVE Act would greatly expand national service programs, including AmeriCorps.  The Act would also create new programs for youth and senior citizens to volunteer in community service.  Included in the House passage was an approved Amendment by Representatives Harry Teague (NM-2nd) and Ron Klein (FL-22nd) to create a Veterans Volunteer Corp.  The Corp would support activities that assist rural, disabled and unemployed veterans with transportation needs.
